4What is functional medicine?
The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes
5What is lifestyle medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine involves the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches, such as a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substance use, and other non-drug modalities, to prevent, treat, and, oftentimes, reverse the lifestyle-related, chronic disease that's all too prevalent.
6Do you accept insurance for office visits?
No. We do not accept insurance for office visits. Upon request, we can provide you with a copy of your invoices which YOU can submit to your insurance company. We cannot guarantee what reimbursement, if any, you may receive. We do not submit claims or call insurance companies directly. This is the responsibility of the patient.
7What tests will I get?
Every case is unique. We work with you to customize testing orders based on your health needs and personal preferences.
8Why Don’t We Accept Insurance?
Unfortunately, when doctors participate with insurance carriers, they enter into a contract that allows the insurance companies to dictate what services will be supplied limiting the quality of care that we believe you deserve. As the costs of keeping a clinic running has continued to rise, reimbursement has fallen forcing most doctors to see more and more patients a day, keeping office visits very brief. We believe this is substandard care and does not allow us to practice the in-depth, expert model of Functional and Integrative medicine.
9Can Dr. Ilkovych be my primary doctor?
No, we do not function as a primary care provider and recommend that you keep a relationship with a primary doctor for sick visits and regular screening exams. We are more than happy to work along side them as a consultant.
10How many visits will I need?
This depends on the complexity of your problem. We require at least a 3 month engagement, as we understand there needs to be significant dietary and lifestyle changes and time for treatments to result in significant change.
11What happens on the first visit?
Before your initial visit, you will complete comprehensive Questionnaire on our Functional Medicine software Living Matrix. Then we can review it and begin planning your visit. Initial appointments can last between 45 and 75 minutes. When you leave the office, you may be given a “to do” list including action items such as necessary treatments, prescriptions, lab requisition forms, and test kits. It is advised that you complete lab tests as soon as possible. Tests can take anywhere from 2 days to two months for results.
